Vector Final?

I started with three different images to work with for my vectoring final. The image of me in a slide from the previous post, one of my tractors, and this picture of my friend having fun on a playground. I'm not sure how many hours it took to get it where it is now, but probably close to seven across a couple days. It is really weird to look at the line drawing, and then color and think they are the same thing.

It was a fun project, but pretty tedious!

More Vectoring

Here is an example of what one of our last projects will be. Start with a picture, turn it into lines, add something interesting.

Electric Sheep?

One of my last projects for class was to create a book cover from a small list of books provided by the teacher. We had a week to do it, and the whole time I was going to do Frankenstein, because I thought it would be pretty easy and fun. The day before the project was due I decided I was bored with it, and wasn't coming up with anything very interesting. Needless to say I went with the strangest book in the list I could find: Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?

This book as I found out after a little research was the inspiration for the movie Blade Runner. Now I haven't read the book, but the movie is pretty wild, so I gave it my best weird 80's sci-fi movie interpretation. I think it came out every bit as odd as the movie, and I had a lot of fun making it!
If you've never really payed attention to book covers, you have to design it in a large spread like this. It is one big image split in half with the cover on the right side. The two black areas on the edges are the flaps that fold inside to keep the cover on.

Turkey Week

Its been quite the busy week, and month. It is a little hard to think the last post on here is from Halloween! I just thought I would drop in some of the latest projects from my Graphic Design classes. Time is flying by and there is only 3 weeks left till winter break. Oddly enough, I am looking forward to being able to go to the gym more than anything over the winter break. If there is one thing I hate about school it is how inconsistent it can make your schedule.

This is was a poster assignment for a fictional dance performance with a focus on text. We were also allowed to incorporate image, and we had to create a logo for the company.

Happy Halloween!

So it may be a couple of days early, but I am super proud of our team's Pumpkin Burger w/ Fries we created for our Pumpkin Contest at work!
We used brown clay spread across a piece of styrofoam for the burger, red clay for the tomatoes, a giant piece of yellow felt for the cheese, and we let real lettuce play its part. The seeds are the pumpkin seeds, they were kind of uncooperative to glue on. The fries are extra pieces of pumpkin cut up into strips.
My favorite part is the fry box! I made that last night to give us some extra company flare. The back of the box has the DLA logo, and our AIR/SEA Team name. It was really fun to make, and we definitely had some superior team work going on!

Brisk Fall Fun

So I spent my Saturday afternoon out at Powell Gardens, which seemed like I had not visited for years. I went to see the bug exhibit since it was the last weekend, but ended up being completely captivated by the Tractor show they were having instead. Here are a tiny few of the photos I took, I may post some more later on. It was amazing to wander through all these things, and know that even though they may not look brand new they work just as well! There were some other interesting motorized contraptions along with the tractors, like a steam powered wood cutter, well pumps, and an ice cream maker. I wish it had been a two day show, my camera battery pooped out after only snapping 189 photos.

2 Weeks Left

That is two weeks until College starts up once again. I have somewhere around 40 hours left to go until I am finished. Contrary to what they all advise, I hope it goes by fast!
I didn't take too many pictures while in Saint Louis with Stephen, mostly because it was ridiculously hot outside, which drains pretty much all motivation. This was my second visit to the Arch, but I still have not gotten to go up in it yet. We also visited the History Museum which had a exhibit of Vatican "treasures" that was more strange than anything. It is interesting how I evaluate art based on what I know, and how people like Stephen judge it based on historical value/content.

The image is a section of the Arch, that goes up & up!

Something..anything!

As much as I really love that cupcake, I feel the need to have something different to stare at when I randomly visit this site. I'm hoping to have some new and exciting images after this weekend. Hopefully also there will be no camera loss involved this time around!

Celebrate

Click to see it in all it's glory!

Another semester has ended today! I now officially get to return to the work all day long routine I'm pretty happy with my grade on my final poster: 94%. That doesn't leave much to complain about in a good graphic design class. I made sure to get my poster back even though she really wanted to keep it. I think I'm going to hang it up at work for awhile before I hide it away in my portfolio.
In other news, I'm trying to convince myself to go downtown to see the Rodrigo Y Gabriella concert next week. The only problem is that the venue is The Uptown, at night, and I am no fan of being in that part of town after dark.

Font Study Final

Ok, so I totally wimped out and went with a safer design, but still managed to use a pretty magnetic color. So fine a color in fact the large format printer at school turned it into a pale yellow, and left a nice smudgy black streak down the middle of the poster. This can not be had for a final project, so I ended up having it printed at Kinkos so it could proudly tout it's Orange goodness smudge free. Pricey for the sake of having some quality so if you feel like purchasing a super limited edition poster just shoot me an email. =)

Trade Gothic is the name of the font family used on this poster design. Definitely a beautiful font to have if you can afford it!

Font Study #2

I should be studying for a test, but this is much more fun. A scribbletastic Myriad Pro Font study.

Last Project

We have 3 weeks left in our Typography class and one final assignment; the font study. We basically pick a font and make a giant poster about it. My devious goal is to make the most obnoxious poster that will steal attention away from all the others that might be more elegantly done. We only have to do one, but I already completed one, so I guess I can keep on making strange things!
(the font is called Atomic Bomb)

Mucky Icky Fun!

I should have had someone take a picture of me while I had all the muddy stuff still on. I conquered 30+ puddles and two piles of snow! The only gross part was the mud that solidified and glued itself to my hair...

More glowy text

Found something the Glowy Letters actually work with.
I kind of winged the TRON Font in illustrator.

More CS4..

I've been going through some Photoshop tutorials trying to learn some fun new stuff. I usually end up getting completely off somewhere along the line though.
This was an excruciating "glowing text" tutorial.(bad instructions) I didn't like how it turned out after all that work so I added my favorite goodies to it. It was supposed to say: Super Nerd, but just getting Super working was all I could muster.
